The Art of Quiet Detailing

• The Bastar Dana, a prominent part of our Bastar Collection, is a descendant of a rich culture that existed more than 100 years ago. The wood and panels used here were originally carved by the men of the Muriya tribe in the remote Bastar region of central India. These doors welcomed folk into temples and ghotuls (community centres). Made of locally abundant Sal wood, some doors are as old as 200 years. The tribe’s deep relationship with the forest they call home manifests in the nature-inspired motifs carved with simple hand tools.
• Refurbishing these designs and motifs, these wooden drawers for storage were designed with the hope of introducing this ancient culture into the modern ethos with a contemporary twist. This nine drawer cabinet retains the patina that envelopes a slowly aged piece of wood, celebrating the marks of time that reflect its antiquities.
• The detailed design also makes sure that this wooden drawer cabinet is as functional and versatile as it is aesthetic.
